Couscous is a Pasta, not a grain- Knorr Taste Quest Episode 5

Saratu
Most people think Couscous is a grain product but it's actually pasta. During the last episode, the judges as usual did not make it any easier for the contestants as the ingredients for this task was as unexpected as possible. The contestants were given Pine nuts, Baby Carrots, Green Bananas, Mushrooms and Couscous!! They were to make a starter and main course meal within 60 minute.

Speaking on the choice of ingredients, Executive Chef, Dr Roberts described them as simple and basic with nutritional benefits. He mentioned that Pine nuts are very high in vitamins and essential oil,   baby carrots, which are sweeter than normal carrots contain vitamins C, B6, A and K,  Mushrooms are high in Riboflavin and Couscous which is a pasta not a grain, has the most superior vitamin content of all pastas.

Also, on the green bananas, He explained that it contains vitamins as well as a starch that helps to manage weight, good for cholesterol levels, and manages blood sugar. Wow, it’s nice to know this about green bananas. I also found out that due to its health benefits, Couscous is a good substitute for some foods like rice!

The guest judge for this episode was no other than TV personality and Film director, Kemi Adetiba. She stated that she was a “foodie”, and was going to judge for taste, great use of spices and interesting textures in the meals presented.

At the end of the show, Saratu won the task with her dish of Mushroom and banana (starter), and Yorkshire pudding (main course). Kemi Adetiba, described her meal as “lovely” and well worth deserving of the Twenty Thousand Naira prize, Bolarinwa and Damilola, however fell in the bottom two, and were put on probation. That means if either of them fall in the bottom two in the next task, either of them will be evicted. According to the judges, Bolarinwa’s meal of Couscous was described as “horrible” and Damilola’s carrot and banana soup as “weird”.

The quest is still on, who gets to the final, or who goes next? We’ll continue to watch and wonder which of the ten remaining contestants will become Nigeria’s best.
